報告摘要：This talk will cover a brief introduction to the Henry Royce Institute which is the UK’s national centre for research and innovation for advanced materials and UK Institute of Materials, Mining and Minerals (IOM3) Surface Technology Group. In addition, a few examples on previously published studies of coatings for high temperature applications will be presented, covering the studies of oxidation and adhesion of coatings to substrate, residual stresses in the coatings and mechanical properties of the coatings. In addition, a published study of coatings for high temperature oxidation resistance of Ti alloys will be discussed.

報告人簡介：Prof. Ping Xiao currently holds Rolls-Royce/Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Advanced Coating Technology. Ping Xiao did his undergraduate and postgraduate study of Chemistry in Jilin University, P. R. China. He went to Oxford University to study Materials Science for DPhil since 1989, and became a postdoctoral research fellow in Oxford since 1993. He joined University of Manchester, Materials Science Centre as a Lecturer in 2001, then became Senior Lecturer in 2003, and Professor in 2008. Ping Xiao's research area covers: 1) thermal barrier and environmental barrier coatings for aero-engine applications; 2) ceramics and ceramic coatings for nuclear industry applications; 3) development of novel ceramic films and coatings. His research on thermal barrier coatings in collaboration with Rolls-Royce has been selected as one of the 20 research impact showcases at University of Manchester. His research has generated 300+ publications in peer-reviewed journals and he is among the top 2% list of the most cited researchers in the world in 2020.In 2019, Ping Xiao was appointed as the UK representative on ceramics for the Generation IV nuclear reactor international Forum (GIF). Since the 1st of May 2020, Ping Xiao has been appointed Chair of Surface Engineering Board, Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, UK. In 2022, he became an editor for Journal of European Ceramic Society. In 2023, he was appointed as the Field Chief Editor for a new ceramic journal "Frontiers in Ceramics".
